Where does Dashboard Data come from?

The statistics appearing in the Pennsylvania Court dashboards are based on cases that have been filed in the offices that comprise the Courts of Common Pleas and the Magisterial District Courts.

Across Pennsylvania, the Courts of Common Pleas utilize a common computer program, the Common Pleas Case Management System (CPCMS), which creates a standardized method for capturing dependency case, criminal case, and financial information. This system is a database that tracks the majority of cases filed in these courts and is capable of compiling aggregate local and statewide statistics in several important categories. CPCMS is the most complete resource regarding Common Pleas Court case information and, consequently, it is the basis for all the data displayed in the corresponding dashboards.

The Magisterial District Courts also utilize a standard computer program for recording case information, the Magisterial District Judge System (MDJS). The MDJS is similar in many ways to CPCMS, but customized exclusively for the cases that are filed in the district courts. The dashboards that display district court data are based on the information recorded in the MDJS system.

The Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts (AOPC) provides the technical support for each of these systems.
