Pennsylvania Courts Host Veteran Appreciation Ceremony for Jurists

In recognition of Veterans Day, Pennsylvania Courts held a ceremony in honor of jurists who have served in the U.S. military on Mon., Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Judicial Center in Harrisburg.

High-ranking members of the Pennsylvania National Guard, Naval Support Activity, Army War College and the Governor’s Administration were in attendance, along with justices of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

“On behalf of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, this event is a small way to recognize and thank those of our judges and court staff who have honorably served and sacrificed for our country and who continue to pursue their steadfast commitment to public service,” said Supreme Court Justice Debra Todd.

Many of the judges honored at this event preside over or work with their local Veterans Treatment Court and now use their military experiences to relate to and assist those justice-involved veterans who are suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder and other mental health issues as a result of their service to this country.

There are currently 25 Veterans Treatment Courts in Pennsylvania. Participants in these programs are intensely supervised throughout the course of the program, while receiving guidance and support from veteran mentors, as well as any necessary treatment from the Veterans Administration or local treatment providers.
