Superior Court to Hold Special Session in Beaver County

The Pennsylvania Superior Court will hold a special session in the Beaver County Courthouse on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 2 and 3, 2013. Court sessions will begin at 9:30 a.m. each day.

The Superior Court normally hears arguments on appeals in Harrisburg , Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, but occasionally the court visits county courthouses around the Commonwealth for special sessions. During the two - day Beaver County session, the Superior Court will hear arguments on appeals from decisions of local trial cour ts in civil, criminal and domestic cases.

The Superior Court is one of the busiest appellate courts in the nation, deciding close to 8,000 cases each year. Beaver County President Judge John McBride invited the Superior Court to sit in Beaver County.

“Our hope is that the people of Beaver County use the opportunity to visit the courtroom to learn about the Superior Court by watching it in action,” Judge McBride explained. “The bench and bar of Beaver County are excited to have the Superior Court sit i n our county. It is an honor and our pleasure.”

A special invitation was extended to the high school students in Beaver County. More than 100 students are expected to attend the oral arguments over the course of the two - day session. All sessions of the Superior Court are open to the public.

Serving on the Superior Court panel will be Judges Mary Jane Bowes, Christine Donohue and Sallie Updyke Mundy. Judges Bowes and Donohue maintain chambers in Pittsburgh. Judge Mundy’s chambers are in Tioga County.
