Superior Court President Judge Correale F. Stevens will chair a three-judge argument court panel on campus at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Room 245 Silverman Hall, 3400 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, on Tuesday, April 2, beginning at 10 am.

“We will hear cases all day in the new moot courtroom on campus and give students the opportunity to engage in questions and answers with us about Superior Court,” Judge Stevens noted.

Stevens will be joined by Judge Judith Ference Olson and Senior Judge Eugene B. Strassberger III, and the panel will hear both civil and criminal appeals from trial courts.

“Having these community sessions gives students and the public a better understanding of what appellate courts do,” Judge Stevens said.

The Superior Court will hold a session this fall at Dallas Area High School in Luzerne County and at the Drexel University Earle Mack School of Law in Philadelphia. So far this year, it has held sessions in Northampton, Beaver and Chester counties.

“During these sessions law students especially can observe the different approaches of appellate lawyers and how they respond to questions from the judges,” he noted. “We will provide them with summaries of cases prior to the start of session.

“And high school students will gain a better understanding of the court system, and maybe some students will look at some aspect of the legal community as a career.

“While appellate court doesn’t have the drama of a trial court, the experience of attending leads to a better understanding of our court system,” Judge Stevens concluded.

The argument list for April 2 can be found at Superior Court’s page on the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania website.
