Joseph Evers, a 40-year veteran of the Philadelphia court system, has been named interim court administrator of Pennsylvania’s largest judicial district.

The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania approved the unanimous recommendation of Evers for the post by the First Judicial District’s Administrative Governing Board, whose members include the president and administrative judges of Philadelphia’s Common Pleas, municipal and traffic courts. He succeeds David Wasson who is resigning April 19 after two years as court administrator.

The district court administrator directs the operational non-judicial activities of the court system.

Evers was appointed prothonotary for the judicial district in 1995 and has also served as clerk of courts in Philadelphia since 2010. Before becoming prothonotary he was a deputy prothonotary, the data processing coordinator for the Office of Prothonotary and assistant supervisor and data entry clerk in the civil division of the Common Pleas and Municipal Court.

Evers will continue to serve as the prothonotary and clerk of courts in addition to his duties as court administrator.
