Superior Court President Judge Correale F. Stevens will fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court following his confirmation by the Pennsylvania Senate over the weekend.

“Corry Stevens is a great appointment to the Supreme Court because he brings a wealth of experience from the executive and legislative branches and from his recent service as president judge of Pennsylvania’s Superior Court,” Chief Justice of Pennsylvania Ronald D. Castille said.

“The transition to the Supreme Court will be difficult because it is a different court than the one he has been serving, and the learning curve will be long and steep. But I know Judge Stevens will approach his new assignment with the same commitment and determination that he has brought to all of his professional challenges.

“My colleagues and I welcome him to the Supreme Court bench.”

Judge Stevens was confirmed by a 50-0 vote to take a seat on the seven-member bench of the Supreme Court. He was appointed to the post by Gov. Thomas Corbett last month to replace former Justice Joan Orie Melvin, who resigned. He will be sworn into office later this month.

Judge Stevens served as a former Luzerne County district attorney and a state representative in addition to his time as a jurist.
