Chief Justice of Pennsylvania Ronald D. Castille joined other top court leaders from neighboring Maryland and West Virginia to boost efforts to provide civil legal aid for poor Americans.

Legal aid attorneys and corporate counsel from nationally recognized companies joined judicial leaders at a forum in Pittsburgh hosted by the Legal Services Corp., which is the nation’s largest funder of civil legal aid. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s Pittsburgh courtroom was the host site for a panel discussion, “The Importance of Access to Justice to the Judiciary.”

“Our justice system serves all Americans, not just those who have the resources to access it,” Chief Justice Castille said. “Legal aid is critical in helping low-income people tackle civil cases.”
