The Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania will hold a special session in Media, PA, at 9 a.m. on May 8 in Courtroom 1 of the Delaware County Courthouse.

The special session will begin with a joint ceremonial session of the Commonwealth Court and Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County.

Following the ceremonial session, a three-judge panel of the Commonwealth Court — President Judge Dan Pellegrini, Judge P. Kevin Brobson and Judge Anne E. Covey — will hear oral arguments in seven cases, including a number of cases of interest to Delaware County.

“By holding oral arguments in communities across Pennsylvania, citizens have the opportunity to see first-hand how the judicial branch operates,” President Judge Pellegrini said. “Educating the public about the court system helps foster trust and confidence in the judicial branch.”

In addition, the Delaware County Bar Association will sponsor a continuing legal education program for lawyers on Pennsylvania’s Right to Know Law, featuring, among other presenters, Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson.

The special session is the result of an invitation by Delaware County President Judge Chad F. Kenney.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to welcome the Commonwealth Court to Delaware County,” President Judge Kenney said. “As hosts, Delaware County citizens are able to gain insight into how the appellate courts provide an additional set of checks and balances on how cases are resolved.”
