Women in the Pennsylvania Judiciary

News Article

March 07, 2019

March is National Women’s History Month, an ideal time to look at the history of women in the Pennsylvania judiciary as well as those women currently serving.

Almost 90 years after electing the commonwealth’s first female judge, 30 percent of Pennsylvania’s active judges are now women. Three women currently serve on the seven-member Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and a majority of the judges serving on both the Superior Court (79 percent) and Commonwealth Court (67 percent) are women.

The infographic below highlights data about women in the judiciary. Download a high-resolution version of the graphic.
