Description
The Deputy Court Administrator-Civil oversees the day-to-day operations and administrative functions of the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas, Civil Division, and the Family and Orphan’s Court. This position manages the judicial work of the county’s civil jury terms and non-jury matters. The work is performed with a high degree of independence under the general direction of the President Judge and the District Court Administrator.
Primary Duties
- Prepares the civil jury trial lists; schedules cases for trial and assigns courtrooms; monitors trials in progress and expedites attachment of successive cases; informs and assembles all parties.
- Reviews custody petitions and assigns them to the custody conference officers; records dispositions of those conferences; assigns unresolved cases to the judges.
- Assigns miscellaneous non-jury civil matters to the judges.
- Acts as a liaison between the Court and the public and the bar; responds to inquiries from the public and the bar.
- Maintains the Court's civil e-mail network to local bar members and sends out via e-mail Dauphin County trial lists, court calendars, judicial assignments, and local rule changes.
- Supervises an administrative assistant and a paralegal.
- Records dispositions of all Civil, Family, and Orphan’s Court matters.
- Prepares and distributes statistical reports as required.
- Assists with the preparation of the annual court calendar for hearings and trials.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Judicial, Business, or Public Administration, or a closely related field; AND
- Three years of experience in court management or four years of finance and human resource experience in a professional setting.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience may be considered.
Additional Requirements/Preferences
- Juris Doctor preferred.
- A satisfactory criminal background check is required.
