As a General Ledger Accountant, you will analyze financial transactions, ensure proper general ledger recording, and create accrual-based financial reports with necessary reconciliations.

Primary Duties

  • Responsible for reconciling all balance sheet accounts.
  • Ensures monthly reconciliation of revenue and expense accounts across three systems: internal, PA Treasury (PeopleSoft), and PA Commonwealth (SAP).
  • Maintains and ensures compliance with internal general ledger account coding rules and trains accounting and independent offices on proper usage.
  • Converts cash-based accounting records to full accrual as needed.
  • Reviews and/or prepares accrual-based journal entries.
  • Collaborates with payroll to ensure correct general ledger account coding and reconciliation of payroll transactions and accruals.
  • Creates, maintains, and documents accounting workflows and internal controls. Collaborates with the finance department and independent office staff to document processes as needed.
  • Works independently, using critical thinking and problem-solving skills, performs research, and traces accounting issues to their source. Works directly with the PA Office of Budget/Bureau of Financial Management, PA Department of Revenue, and the PA Treasury to resolve discrepancies and accounting coding issues between the internal system and PeopleSoft or SAP.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and completion of the GAAP-based ACFR package. GAAP package includes creating accrual-based financial schedules, creating manual Excel journal entries for submission to BFM, running and analyzing SAP reports, and creating reconciliations to tie the GAAP package to internal accounting records. Collaborates with accounting staff responsible for accounts payable and receivable listings to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with coursework in accounting PLUS
  • Three years of professional accounting experience.

Additional Requirements/Preferences

  • Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, financial terms, and principles, including cash and accrual accounting methods.
  • Knowledge and skill to independently comprehend, analyze, and interpret financial transactions and correct discrepancies.
  • Ability to work with interruptions, strict deadlines, and minimal supervision.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) is required.
  • Workday, PeopleSoft, and SAP software experience preferred.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check required.
