Description
This Deputy Court Administrator position manages and administers the day-to-day operations of the Orphans’ Court Division of the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. This position works under the general supervision of the Administrative Judge and the District Court Administrator. This role functions with a high degree of independence while executing sound judgment and discretion.
Primary Duties
- Coordinate the administration of the Orphans' Court Division under the direction of the Administrative Judge.
- Supervise, evaluate, and participate in the work of department supervisors in the Orphans' Court Division, including Estates/Trusts, Guardianship, Adoption, Civil Commitment, and Motions.
- Review all Civil and Orphans' Court Division settlement petitions before presenting them to the Administrative Judge.
- Advise the Administrative Judge about Orphans' Court procedures and practice concerns.
- Revise practices and procedures to conform with statutory and regulatory changes. Participate in Bar Association court rules committees and seminar presentations.
- Provide assistance to court personnel, attorneys, and others regarding case procedures and schedules.
- Serve as liaison between Administrative Judge, courtroom personnel, attorneys, and other court and county departments.
- Assist the District Court Administrator in the administration of the Court of Common Pleas.
- Perform related legal and administrative work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Judicial, Business, or Public Administration or a closely related field, PLUS
- Five years of experience in court management or eight years of varied office management work, including experience in budgeting, procurement, and human resource management or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements/Preferences
- Experience and knowledge of the law in all aspects of Orphans' Court, including estate administration, guardianships, adoption, trusts, minors' settlements, birth/death/marriage amendments, and inheritance tax is strongly preferred.
- A Juris Doctor degree and admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania is strongly preferred.
- Satisfactory criminal background check required.
