Pennsylvania Courts Challenge Myth vs. Fact in New Domestic Violence Campaign

The Pennsylvania Courts are using a new social media campaign to educate about the courts’ role in helping victims and survivors of domestic violence.

Branded in a “myth vs fact” pattern, the campaign highlights some of the most common misconceptions regarding domestic violence.

“The statistics are staggering – 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, said Andrea Tuominen, court administrator of Pennsylvania. “Few people realize the important role the courts play in helping keep a survivor and their family safe from future abuse through protective orders.

“So often, survivors of abuse are not aware that protection orders even exist as an option or they are intimidated by the process,” added Tuominen. “Through this educational campaign, the Pennsylvania Courts hope survivors of abuse gain the knowledge and confidence to seek the help they need.”

Produced by the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts, the campaign uses its social media platforms and website to guide users on some myths vs facts regarding domestic violence, how to file protection orders, safety planning and recognizing the signs of abuse.

More information about the campaign is available on Facebook, or by visiting the PA Courts website.
