Butler County Courts Advise of Reported Phone Scam

News Article

April 30, 2026

Butler County President Judge S. Michael Yeager is advising the public to stay vigilant against multiple reported phone scams.

The scams involve calls that “spoof” or mimic court telephone numbers. During the spoof call, those being targeted are told they have missed a critical court proceeding where they were subpoenaed as a witness or did not appear for jury service.

The caller asserts that a warrant has been issued to place the individual under arrest, threatens to send law enforcement to place the individual under arrest, and finally demands payment to the Butler Circuit Court, which is a fictitious court entity.

Residents are advised that the Butler County Courts will never place calls soliciting payments by credit card, gift card, or any other means of electronic funds transfer for any reason.

Should you receive a phone call claiming to be involved with or calling from the Butler County Courts or the Butler County Circuit Court, please do not provide any sensitive information or forms of payment of any kind.

Anyone receiving calls of this nature is encouraged to hang up immediately and contact state and/or local police as well as the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, Bureau of Consumer Protection at (800) 441-2555 or scams@attorneygeneral.gov.
