Susan Peikes Gantman Elected President Judge of Pennsylvania Superior Court

The Pennsylvania Superior Court, meeting in Pittsburgh today, has elected Judge Susan Peikes Gantman to be its new president judge. 

President Judge Gantman succeeds the interim President Judge John T. Bender, who filled the vacancy created when former President Judge Correale Stevens was appointed to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. 

President Judge Gantman is from Montgomery County.  She received her undergraduate degree and master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her law degree from Villanova University School of Law.  She was elected a judge of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania in 2003 and won retention in 2013.

Before joining the Superior Court, President Judge Gantman was in private law practice for 22 years.  She served as a senior member and co-chair of the Family Law Section of Cozen O’Connor and as a partner in the former law firm of Sherr Joffe & Zuckerman P.C.  She represented the Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth, was a former assistant district attorney of Montgomery County, and a law clerk to a judge of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas. 

President Judge Gantman has received many service awards, including the Pennsylvania Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession Anne X. Alpern Award, the Montgomery County Bar Association Margaret Richardson Award, and the Outstanding Service Award from the Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth.  She is active in the Pennsylvania, Montgomery County and Philadelphia County Bar associations.  She is a lecturer for the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and other continuing legal education institutions.  She is a member of the Pennsylvania Dependency Benchbook Committee.

Under the Pennsylvania Rules of Judicial Administration, President Judge Gantman will serve as president judge of the Superior Court for a term of five years.
