Civics Essay Contest for Elementary School Students

The National Center for State Courts is offering prizes to elementary school children for the best written essays on the importance of the study of government and citizenship.
The contest is open to third-, fourth- and fifth-graders. The essay topic is: “What is civics education and why is it important?”
The entry deadline is Feb. 21. All submissions must be 100 words or less and can be handwritten or typed. The student’s name, school name and address; teacher’s name and grade must be included. A teacher’s email address also must be included.
In addition to a first-place award of a $100 Amazon gift card, the essay will appear in future National Center publications.
The National Center will provide a $50 gift card for each of five second-place winners and a $25 gift card to each of the 10 third-place winners.
