The Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania will hold a special session in West Chester at 9 a.m. on June 20 in Courtroom 1 of the Chester County Justice Center.
The special session will begin with a joint session of the Commonwealth Court and Court of Common Pleas of Chester County. During the joint session, there will be comments by Commonwealth Court President Judge Dan Pellegrini; Chester County President Judge James P. MacElree II and Chester County Bar Association President Lisa Comber Hall, Esq.
“This is another way for us to reach Pennsylvanians and educate them about how their appellate courts operate,” Judge Pellegrini said. “Providing citizens direct access, in their own communities, enhances the level of confidence and trust in the judicial branch of government.”
Following the ceremonial session, a panel of three Commonwealth Court judges will hear arguments in nine cases. President Judge Pellegrini and Judges P. Kevin Brobson and Anne E. Covey and will participate.
In addition, the Chester County Bar Association will sponsor a continuing legal education program for lawyers entitled, Harm Caused by Access to Court Records — An Attorney’s Ethical Obligations. The panel for the program will include President Judge Pellegrini and Commonwealth Court Judge Renee Cohn Jubelirer.
“The goal of the special session is to provide Chester County citizens with a greater understanding of the judicial system and the important issues addressed by their courts,” Judge MacElree said. “Holding an appellate court proceeding and special joint session with the Common Pleas Court in our justice center is an excellent opportunity to present our citizens with an opportunity to see their judiciary first-hand in action.”
