HARRISBURG – The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania today acknowledged and expressed appreciation for the work of Berks County Senior Judge Arthur E. Grim as special master of the fund to compensate victims of juvenile offenders associated with the travesty of justice effectuated by two corrupt Luzerne County judges. “Judge Grim, through his efforts as special master of the Special Juvenile Victim Compensation Fund, as well as his work as special master in reviewing all of the juvenile cases in the Luzerne County scandal, is held in the highest regard by the Supreme Court,” said Chief Justice of Pennsylvania Ronald D. Castille. “The Court and the citizens of the Commonwealth owe Judge Grim a debt of gratitude for his fine work ameliorating the injustices there.” Judge Grim was appointed special master to implement and administer the victim compensation fund on October 21, 2010. Working with the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts and the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, the judge identified victims of juvenile crime who were owed restitution, and recommended that those individuals be compensated under the provisions of the fund. In response, the Supreme Court approved more than $65,000 in compensation payments to some 110 juvenile crime victims in amounts they would have received had the juveniles’ adjudications of delinquency not been overturned, as had been previously ordered by the Supreme Court. The restitutions payments were processed by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. To read Judge Grim’s report to the Supreme Court: click here.
