HARRISBURG, September 20, 2010 - A panel of Pennsylvania Superior Court judges will hold a special session in the Carbon County Courthouse in Jim Thorpe on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 21 and 22, 2010. The Superior Court normally meets in Harrisburg, Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, but occasionally the court visits county courthouses around the Commonwealth for special sessions. "We do this to bring the court closer to the communities so that people who may be unfamiliar with appellate court proceedings can have an opportunity to visit the courtroom and watch," said Superior Court President Judge Kate Ford Elliott. "We don't have trials in Superior Court. We have oral arguments involving criminal and civil cases that have been appealed from the Courts of Common Pleas. Everyone, young and old, including school children, is welcome to attend these sessions, and the media is welcome to cover them." The court sessions in Carbon County will begin at 9:30 a.m. each day. During the twoday session, the Superior Court panel will hear oral arguments on appeals from local civil, criminal and domestic trial court cases. Serving on the panel will be Judges Mary Jane Bowes, Christine Donohue and Judith Olson. All three judges maintain chambers in Pittsburgh. Judge Donohue is a native of Carbon County.
