Pennsylvania Supreme Court Reappoints Five members of the Civil Procedural Rules Committee

HARRISBURG, June 12, 2007 — The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania today announced the reappointment of five members of the Civil Procedural Rules Committee. The Hon. Stewart L. Kurtz, of Huntingdon County; C. Lee Anderson, Esq., of Dauphin County; Nancy H. Fullam, Esq., of Philadelphia; Andrew J. Stern, Esq., also of Philadelphia and Howard F. Messer, Esq., of Allegheny County, were reappointed to three-year terms beginning June 30. The court also redesignated Judge Kurtz as vice chair of the committee. The committee was created in 1937 by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania to assist in the promulgation and administration of the rules of civil procedure governing civil actions for the Courts of Common Pleas. The work of the committee, which is the oldest of the Supreme Court's committees, covers all aspects of civil practice before the Courts of Common Pleas except those relating to the Orphans' Court and Family Court divisions. The Supreme Court appoints committee members to three-year terms. Each member may serve a maximum of two consecutive full terms. The committee membership consists of 16 lawyers and judges, including one ex-officio member.
