Civil Procedural Rules Committee
The Civil Procedural Rules Committee was established by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 1937. It is the oldest of the Supreme Court’s rules committees.
The committee assists the Supreme Court in the preparation, revision, publication and administration of the rules of civil procedure. This work includes the entire spectrum of civil matters in the Courts of Common Pleas except matters relating to Orphans' Court and family court divisions of those courts.
Committee appointments are typically for six-year terms. In special circumstances the Supreme Court may extend or reduce the term of an appointment. Members of this committee are appointed by the Supreme Court and are knowledgeable about the Pennsylvania Rules of Civil Procedure and are experienced in state civil practice in Pennsylvania. There is also one ex-officio member who is identified by, and is a member of, the Pennsylvania Association of Court Management.
